A fundraising project supporting Children in Care and Families in Need on the South West Coast of Sri Lanka.
We raise funds for children in care on the West Coast of Sri Lanka in the area of Ambalangoda. Some children are from family breakdowns or referred from the probation services as parents are imprisoned or unable to cope. In addition we help support families genuinely in need financially, usually due to health issues. Many are still dealing from the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami and living in appalling conditions.
Spread some Sunshine purchased a small plot of land. Originally the build started as a family home, however after encountering several problems we made the decision to provide a mini community centre, to be called ‘Happy House’. The building as of March 2020 is almost complete but unfortunately due to Covid 19, most fund raising has had to cease and we have had to halt building for the foreseeable future.
Pamoda, Buddi and Piyya are 3 mums of families that have been identified by Sampath, our Project Manager as being in desperate situations: These 3 families are quite simply living a nightmare, no food, no income and living in appalling living conditions. They receive no government support and it’s often left to local people to help them; most are facing health problems that are costly and requires transportation that is not accessible to them. We help with basic foods, medical costs and providing labour work where possible on Happy House. Our SSS aim is to develop self sustainability via micro finance schemes and other methods.
To prioritise needs and maintain, at this difficult time, food supplies to 3 families and the 26 girls in the Anula Wijerama Care Home
Endeavour to raise funds to improve the living conditions for each of the families we support.
Develop Happy House as seems most beneficial and appropriate at this time. Hopefully to create a mini craft centre, with a stop off for visitors where they can rest, take tea, shower and experience the production of DhD handloom items, in order to purchase.
Spread some Sunshine aims to financially support self sustainability via micro finance schemes,
such as vegetable growing, baking and sewing.
